The Business of Freelance Developmental Editing course, October 18 – November 8, 2011

Just a quick reminder that I’ll be teaching another session of my four-week online course, The Business of Freelance Developmental Editing, October 18 – November 8, 2011.

In past sessions, we’ve been joined by editors considering opening a freelance business, as well as those currently freelancing. Course materials include online lectures, weekly written assignments, and group discussion.

I've taught this class a handful of times over the past couple of years, and we always have lively, interesting, and informative exchanges on all the big and little things that help one create, run, and refresh a successful editing business.

Many of us who attended the Red Pencil in the Woods conference outside Seattle last month were reminded of just how important it is for editors to always be on the lookout for ways to improve our business skills, as well as just share information with other editors. So I hope to see have some of you as course participants later this month!

  1. I highly recommend Karalynn's class. I took it—together with Marta and a few other editors—about a year and a half ago. There was too much information to integrate in 4 weeks, so I collected all the class lectures and resources and examples in a folder to revisit later. This fall I'm using this material again as I work on revising my resume and website to focus my outreach on certain types of editing I particularly enjoy.
