- In the spirit of this month's online class on "The Business of Freelance Developmental Editing," consider going online for "100 Must-Read Freelance Intelligence Tips & Tricks" or to download free styleguide icons for use on your editorial website. (Thanks to @KOKEdit.)
- Meanwhile, "Angry Books Writer" asks Salon.com advice columnist Cary Tennis, "How do I stop getting so upset?" at friends of friends who ask her to read, evaluate, and edit their manuscripts for free. I like the advice. The comments are up, down, and sideways, and generally entertaining. (Thanks to an anonymous editor from the Northwest Independent Editors Guild.)
- Finally, remember a few years ago, when independent writer/publishers were asking each other online, "Should I be worried about piracy?"—that is, readers stealing copies of e-book files and/or giving copies to their friends? The consensus was not to bother worrying: It was gonna happen anyway, and in the end, word of mouth would trump financial losses. Now there's a new horror story: What if someone plagiarizes your story or novel, repackages it under his own name, and is selling it on Amazon and Smashwords? (Thanks to @victoriastrauss.)
